Welcome to Fogo Island!
Fogo island is located between the islands of Santiago to the east and Brava to the west. It is practically the whole island is a stratovolcano that has been periodically active: it last erupted in 2014. The island's main city is São Filipe, near which are an airport and a port.
Fogo is largely an agricultural, fertile island. Fogo island also known as the volcanic island has na active volcano, this is the highlight of Cape Verde to visit.
In the crater the volcano is still smoking from its last eruption (2014). Dark and dried lava flows are still very visible. The volcano is surrounded by beautiful fertile landscapes. From vineyards to coffee plantations. And at the foot of the volcano you can admire the beautiful village called Chã das Caldeiras. Fogo is a unique experience and recommended for travelers who love impressive landscapes, history and hiking. Fogo is a true highlight of any holiday to Cape Verde.
Thousands of years ago, Fogo rose from the sea in a volcanic eruption. Its highest point and also Cabo Verde´s highest point is Pico do Fogo, standing at 2,829m and dominating the island’s landscape.

HIKING TO THE PICO DO FOGO OR PICO GRANDE (BIG CRATER)
The hiking to Pico Grande begins very early in the morning from a small village-Chã das Caldeiras. The volcano is the highest point in Cabo Verde with 2829 meters. While hiking our guide will tell stories about several eruptions. This hike is challenging but when you are on top of the volcano, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the crater, the wonderful landscape, the brown and black stones contrasting with the vividness of sky give you better feeling of your life.

HIKING TO PICO PEQUENO (SMALL CRATER)
The penultimate eruption, which took place in 1995, formed a new crater called Pico Pequeno. Accessible on foot and in a moderate hike through a linear and smooth path. This lovely hike allows you to reach the crater, stop at its feet and discover the many unexpected colors of the lava that alternate in an incredible natural landscape, touch the burning stones and be amazed by the warm breaths of air that come directly from this earth, alive and fervent.

Fizemos uma visita de um dia pela ilha de Santiago com a rural tours, na pessoa do Aldino, que recomendo! O dia começou com a viagem da Praia até à cidade de Assomada com o seu mercado característico na agitação de um sábado de manhã!.
Hiking Águas Belas Cave
I liked very much the 3-hour hike through the stark landscape, first to the cave and then on to Ribeira de Barca: the sea turqoise near the land and dark blue further away, the land ochre with dark red to black and dotted with green bushes, and the light blue sky above - just lovely colors. And all that with a refreshing wind - never got too hot - and a very considerate guide who checked time and again that the speed of hiking was suitable for me, and Apollo knows the area like his own home. Great experience.
Hiking Serra Malagueta Natural Park
I was staying in Achada Lem and hiked in Serra Malagueta on Saturday myself. In the evening I was warn by hotel personnel that it is better not to hike in the Natural park on Sunday, because there were a couple of cases, when local teenagers were attacking the tourists and stealing their phones and money. I was doubtful, if I should get a local guide or go myself but when a girl at the reception said that someone from the Rural tours has "beautiful English". Read More
Hiking to Antonia Peak
I kinda had a private tour with tour guide Delvin, because nobody else had booked the trip on the same day. Anyhow, he made it an awesome trip! It was entertaining, funny, challenging and I was rewarded not only with an awesome view on the entire island but also with good (local and international) music, sunshine and a tour guide who always looked out for me and my steps. I felt safe, secure and in best hands! Just be sure, you have a good conditional health, because this really can be exhausting for some parts of the hike. Also, everything was well communicated, on time and easy going! I would definitely recommend this trip or any other from RURAL tours.
